Trivia |
- Cards measure 2 1/16" by 2 1/2"
- Bowman attempted a sales gimmick to promote the set where collectors needed to search for a mysterious short-printed card #4, which in reality was just postponed to the third series and replaced by card #73.
- #21 Frank Baumholtz - UER: "October 7, 1919" should be "October 7, 1918" as birthdate on back
- #62 Grady Hatton - UER: "46" should be "44" in last line of text on back
- #67 Alvin Dark - UER: "January 7, 1923" should be "January 7, 1922" as birthdate on back

My 1992 edition of "The Sport Americana Baseball Card Price Guide" by Dr. James Beckett prices this set as if there are 7 series, 36 in each except for Series 7 which has 24. However, the variation on card #4 (Jerry Priddy) is consistent with Series 3, not Series 1. So, I am labeling (in my own personal checklist, not here) the series as follows:

Probably the worst-looking designs from the 1948-1955 bowman collection. Although color was added, the backgrounds were also removed. | ||
