I once got a message from a former minor league player who saw I had his one and only card for sale/trade. He offered to pay for it, seemed legit enough, so I sent it for nothing. 

Over the years I have known several friends and relatives of players which I have cards of.   None of them collect or asked for cards.   I even offered cards but no takers.

I did send out a lot of messages (cold calls) to people about wanting a card of one player that went to the same school I did.   4 years younger.   For my PC he did not collect.  

I’ve been contacted by several friends and relatives of former players.  In one case, I was contacted by a former minor leaguer who was looking for his only card.  It was super hard to find, but I ended up tracking down a second copy.  The player ended up living in the town next to me and he agreed to give my son a hitting lesson in exchange for the card.  Was an awesome experience and goes to show how small the world can be!

What a fantastic story - what more could be asked for than a hitting lesson by a professional ballplayer?
